Centreville Library’s Teen Zone Makeover Arrives August 2025!
After years of planning, the Centreville Library’s Teen Zone has a whole new look. Library staff members Marina Canant and Kerri Zuiker have spearheaded this project, and Centreville Friends volunteers sat down with them to learn about the space’s history—and what’s next.
Originally tucked away in a small back corner of the library, the teen materials moved to a more visible spot near the front door around 2010. Over the next ten years, the space went through a few minor permutations but never offered the kind of space teens really deserved in the library.
During the early days of the pandemic, the collection of books shifted to their present location, opening up the space that had previously been cluttered by mismatched shelving units. That’s when the vision for a cohesive area with seating intentionally designed for the Teen Zone started to take shape.
Library employees have rearranged the bookshelves and stocked them with new titles and games, and a fresh design has been finalized. “We designed our new teen space to be a comfortable and inviting environment for our teens to study and relax in while also offering a flexible area to accommodate library programs and activities as needed,” said Marina Canant, describing the project’s core vision.
Thanks to funding from the Centreville Friends, the Teen Zone features:
-
Modular tables that can be combined or separated to fit any group size
-
Cozy booths and benches with built-in power outlets for laptops and devices
-
A flexible layout that encourages both focused study and casual hangouts
